Ellie Goulding MTV EMAs Milan
MTV Milano
If you have logged on to any form of social media over the past weekend you may have noticed that we've reached that time of year again where the celebrities come out in force to celebrate MTV's Europe Music Awards. As pure luck would have it, this year they were held in Milan. Saturday night found me at the Piazza del Duomo, for the MTV World Stage, singing (or screaming) my heart out to Ellie Goulding and Duran Duran. I know, I couldn't believe my luck either. Come for the year abroad, stay for the free entrance to an EMA pre-show. I will always have love for happy coincidences.

In all seriousness though, I almost didn't go as I wasn't sure what I was actually going to when I made my way to the Duomo. All I knew was that it was free, there was a stage and rumours of Duran Duran headlining. I am so, ridiculously glad that for once I wasn't typical, lazy me and I went. I had the best night out all for the price of the Big Mac I bought halfway through the afternoon to keep myself going.

Hearing the sound check in the afternoon put me in good stead for the opening acts in the evening as both bands were Italian and it meant I wasn't completely unfamiliar with their songs. Next on stage though made me long for home and British accents. I'd never seen Ellie Goulding live before and I wholeheartedly have to join the hype now. She sounds almost exactly like her recorded songs, even when dancing round the stage. I had a very patriotic moment stood there in the crowd singing along to Burn and Love Me Like You Do and am girl crushing on Ellie Goulding like nothing else. You too? No?

Having the chance to attend a concert like this, completely free of charge, was so soooo surreal. As the confetti shot into the air during Duran Duran's final number (and their song with Mark Ronson who oh so coincidentally popped up onstage too, fangirl moment!!!) I couldn't help feeling giddy. The MTV EMA's is a show I watch most years, in bits and pieces, and I am so happy I got to be involved this year, even by pure chance.

Did you catch the EMA's yesterday?
