Milan Duomo MarbleIt might come as absolutely no surprise to any of my regular readers that I just L-O-V-E a good pose in front of a monument or two. Shocked? Didn't think so. Milan's Duomo is up there as being one of the most beautiful places that I've ever had the pleasure to get my pose on.

When visiting Milan, the Duomo is always cited as being 'the' tourist destination in the city, so of course it was one of the first things on my 'To See' list when I arrived. Intricately designed, with every inch of the marble building creating a feast for the eyes from the moment I stumbled up the stairs coming out of the metro, the Duomo created an unforgettable first impression. It definitely doesn't hurt either that on a good day you can see the unmistakable outline of the alps on the horizon from its very photogenic pink-toned marble roof, a pleasant view that I hadn't bargained on when I began queueing. Currently uploading all the instagrams (check them here)!

The morning I meant to go up, Ross found a 24hour live stream of the cathedral and so I had said I would let him know when I was there to see if he could spot me. With hindsight, I probably should have asked him where the camera was as when I got to the roof, I text him and began waving at what I thought was the camera. Turns out the camera is aimed at the impressive doors, not the roof, and I'd been happily waving away to a CCTV system, so hopefully I gave a security guard a laugh or two that day.

Coming from such a small town in England, I haven't quite managed to get over how huge the cathedral is. It seems like such a central part of Milanese life, whether that's simply because it's used as a point of reference geographically or for deeper, more historic and religious reasons. I personally walk past the Duomo every day on my way into university and it makes the walk in that bit more special.

I'm glad I went on one of my first days here as it now means that I can explore the more hidden gems that the city has to offer, but the moment I looked up at the Duomo for the first time was simply incredible.
